Knowledge is the Most Powerful Tool!

There is much more to using or reviewing a chargemaster description master (CDM) than simply confirming the accuracy of the codes in place and that charges are above Medicare payment levels. Of course our review of CDM includes these two important aspects of a review. However, with access to CDM Tools, and online research we generally do not find that there are significant issues with coding. That is not to say that most CDM’s cannot use a coding tune-up, we have never reviewed a CDM where there were not coding recommendations. Instead, our experience is that the opportunities and risks to hospitals’ revenues are from missing charges, misuse of charges, and/or a lack of use of their charges. These issues are often a result of an incomplete understanding of every charge and/or CPT code available to a clinical area. ChargeMaster Institute ® will ensure that not only is your CDM accurate and complete, but that your clinical personnel completely understand their CDM and how to use it fully and compliantly.

Our People Make Us Who We Are!

There are many things to like about CMI, our expertise, the provision of supporting documentation, the webinars that are included in our support program, our annual 2-day program to review the OPPS regulation changes and coding changes. But one thing we hear over-and-over is how easy it is to work with CMI. Our clients tell us that our collegial approach invites client participation which enhances the entire CDM review and/or education process. We strive to work with you, not to become another layer of management in your organization.

Charging is Coding!

Coding is an extremely important element in your facility’s revenue cycle and compliance activities. We estimate that less than 10 percent of codes are assigned by trained coders and that more than 90 percent of coding is as a result of a department’s selection of a charge. Yet, most ancillary departments have no idea that they are coding HCPCS codes when selecting a charge! Our education program stresses the role and responsibilities of the department in this key revenue cycle activity and provides coding education specific to each service area. No auditor should be able to shoot holes in your charging practices; we’ll make sure you’re bullet proof!
